Still, Moogieman\u2019s hopefully not one to follow the pack, surely.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.moogieman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NightShift_Red_Xmas_EP_review_Dec_2017.png\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.moogieman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NightShift_Red_Xmas_EP_review_Dec_2017-329x1024.png\" alt=\"Review of Moogieman Red Xmas EP in Oxford&#039;s Nightshift magazine, December 2017\" width=\"200\"  class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-2681\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.moogieman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NightShift_Red_Xmas_EP_review_Dec_2017-329x1024.png 329w, http:\/\/www.moogieman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NightShift_Red_Xmas_EP_review_Dec_2017-112x350.png 112w, http:\/\/www.moogieman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NightShift_Red_Xmas_EP_review_Dec_2017-768x2392.png 768w, http:\/\/www.moogieman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NightShift_Red_Xmas_EP_review_Dec_2017.png 778w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 329px) 100vw, 329px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This four song offering lyrically does err towards some of those well-worn tropes, notably `Why Am I Always Alone\u2019, which finds our lopsided electro-pop little match girl left on their tod for the festive period: \u201cThe food is all dry \/ I just want to sit and cry\u201d he moans before the chorus find him emoting \u201cLonely and silent is the night.\u201d All this over a soundtrack that might be<br \/>\nDAF\u2019s electro-grind invading Toytown.<\/p>\n<p>Talking of which there\u2019s love \u2013 and loss \u2013 on Santa\u2019s production line on `Red Xmas\u2019, while `The Evangelist\u2019 sounds like an acid-frazzled busker attempting to recreate The Human League\u2019s `Dare\u2019 on an acoustic guitar and a kids\u2019 keyboard, while berating John the Baptist. Best of the lot if closer `Mr Stylites\u2019, which shifts forward to the post-Christmas come-down (rhyming January<br \/>\nwith austerity into the bargain), bolstered by some heavenly backing vocals and sounds like a punked-up Divine Comedy doing his Christmas after-dinner turn for the in-laws.<\/p>\n<p>The EP does sound a bit rushed \u2013 though that\u2019s part of Moogieman\u2019s modus operandi \u2013 and while there\u2019s enough clever lyrical thought gone into it, it doesn\u2019t stray as far from an increasingly well worn path as we\u2019d hope given his recent musical form and very obvious lyrical talents.<br \/>\n<cite><br \/>\nDale Kattack<br \/>\n<cite>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s what Oxford\u2019s indefatigable music magazine, Nightshift, had to say about the forthcoming Moogieman EP.
