All Will Be Well Records has announced the release date of the long-awaited Moogieman album, Girls And Film, a concept album based around the theme of analogue photography.
The album features 24 tracks and includes songs that have been part of the Moogieman And The Masochists setlist, such as Disposable, Pinhole, I Left My Camera On The Moon and Provia, and of course a host of brand new ones. Many of these will be aired for the first time at the launch gig, which takes place at the Cellar on Friday 16 June.
Is it when all the tracks have been laid down and mixed? When it’s mastered? When the CDs (or vinyl if you’re posh) are pressed? When the launch is set? The Moogiemedia team can at least say we have reached the beginning of the end, with the all the songs tracked and mixed. The mixes are being reviewed and there will be some minor adjustments but we’ll hopefully be able to announce a launch gig soon.
In the meantime here is some footage of the final recordings made for the album – some of the more experimental tracks
Containing 12.5% of the forthcoming Girls And Film Album – that’s 3 songs out of the planned 24, plus an extra track that isn’t related to photography – the new EP serves as an amuse bouche for those keen to get a taste of the new Moogieman sound. It’s available at Bandcamp or on CD. Copies will be on sale at the next gig: 15 October at the Library, 4pm for Oxjam.
Flowchart showing the (convoluted) process of making the album Girls And Film.
That difficult first album – it all gets off to a great start, ideas flow and you’re feeling musically inspired. But then life gets in the way, your open reel 8 track breaks down, you’re not happy with your mechanical reverb options so you have to build a plate device, the album concept is film photography so you need 24 tracks. As I mentioned before, I’ve been addding some new kit to Moogie Studios. In fact, a lot of the album recording process in the last few months has been taken up with this. Here’s a look at my DIY plate reverb.
Moogieman And The Masochists are releasing a brand new video today for the song Pinhole. The track will appear on the forthcoming album Girls And Film and usually features as the opener at MATM gigs.
After kicking off the year by joining All Will Be Well Records, Moogieman And The Masochists have a packed Spring calendar. First off, another All Will Be Well gig at the Cellar on 15 April, supporting the inimitable Club Soda, then a slot at the carnivalesque Klub Kakofanney on 6 May, and finally opening the annual Oxford Punt – Nightshift Magazine’s showcase of new Oxford bands (new defined as not having played the Punt before).
In the run up to these events expect some promotional videos and also join the virtual release of Bloom – All Will Be Well Records label sampler vol. 2 on 1 April, featuring the new Moogieman track I Left My Camera On The Moon.
Moogieman And The Masochists have stumbled into 2016 by joining All Will Be Well Records – an Oxfordshire/Berkshire outfit that aims to ‘support selected artists via social media and to offer a platform for musicians to gain a wider audience.’
First up, All Will Be Well published an interview with Moogieman on their site earlier this month.
Then on Weds 2 March the label is putting on a gig at the Library featuring MATM and new label mates All Is Worth and Nelson And The Columns.
Come on down! It will be a great opportunity to catch MATM play their first gig of the year (including some new material) and check out these other two excellent All Will Be Well bands.
