Saturday’s naval engagement, Flotilla Thrilla 2, passed off without serious incident save some fine performances on and next to the River Cherwell.
As predicted, the weather was gloriously cloudy but rain held off, making it a somewhat drier event than the first waterborne open mic put on by moogieman.
I’ll take you out on a lazy afternoon.
We’ll fish for trout and I’ll show you my harpoon.
And in my boating blazer on the back of a punt,
I’ll act so lackadaisical I won’t seem such a …
The countdown begins to Flotilla Thrilla 2: the second waterborne open mic extravaganza organised by Moogieman this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Late 60s glam rockers Wigwam were unable to make the gig on Thursday at the Bullingdon Arms. There were suggestions this may be due to them having been refused visas on the grounds of their records not being available in the UK.
I got myself roped into a four hour canoe trip to Abingdon on Sunday and was inadvertently inducted into the secret world of geocaching.
Actually, it’s hardly secret. There are apparently 5 million geocachers worldwide and 1.4 million geocaches listed on the web. They have a website: www.geocaching.com.
But sometimes the best way to keep things hidden is to be as open about them as possible. Or something like that. It was certainly a secret world to me before I met Elephant Guy (not his real name but his geocaching handle – I don’t know if they call them handles but it’s the kind of thing where they would). The best gigs are like detective stories and next Thursday’s at the Bullingdon Arms is no exception.

At a time when local newspapers are losing circulation faster than a gangrenous limb, here at Moogiemedia we’re leading the fightback with a new monthly publication, Moogie News.
Okay, expect the initial impact to be relatively small. Moogie News is hand written and hand drawn on a single side of A6. We’re not about to be put out of business by this new-fangled hot metal typsetting stuff (which will no doubt turn out to be a flash in the pan).
No pics here of Moogieman performing but some photos I took afterwards. Mainly of plants – the festival takes place every year on allotments that are run by Restore, a local mental health charity.
The allotments provide a therapeutic work environmen and offers opportunities to socialise and learn new skills in horticulture, cooking, marketing, woodwork and other crafts. Read the rest of this entry »
If you missed the Moogieman show or you’re desparate to relive it, you can see most of it in this collection of YouTube videos. They’ve been shot and edited by Nigel Brown who runs Live & Acoustical, a fortnightly gig night at the Holly Bush on Osney Island, off Botely Road (and also propietor of the Harcourt Open Arms Mic).
Space shuttle Atlantis touched down on Thursday, bringing the 30 year-long shuttle programme to a close. Now US astronauts travelling to the International Space Station will have to book tickets on Russian Soyuz spacecraft. Read the rest of this entry »
